The Roland Garros tennis tournament is one of the most important international tennis tournaments and takes place over two weeks in Paris, at the sports complex with the same name. It is one of the most prestigious sporting events of the year and one of the most popular tennis events. In 2018, the women’s tournament was won by the Romanian Simona Halep.

With a capacity of over 15,000 seats, the stadium ensures maximum comfort for both the conduct of sporting activities and their optimal viewing conditions. The stadium renovation included changing and replacing all railings with those made of secure and laminated glass. Proactively, the designers specified the configuration of 10.4.10 mm, in the version with Heat Soak Test, thus reducing the risk of spontaneous breakage. On each glass panel, Glas Expert applied a marker, visible only in ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 254nm. The marking can be seen throughout the life of the glass that has undergone HST testing, even after breakage.

The laminating film used in the Roland Garros project was a special one, Evalam Crystal. It provides superior image quality seen through laminated glass and reduced UV ray filtration, all for the viewer’s comfort. The 4 films generate increased elasticity of the entire assembly, precisely to provide additional protection to spectators in the event of an incident or accident.

Tests and samples preceding the start of the project were carefully studied, and the conclusions were always viewed and analyzed from the perspective of the safety and security of the spectators. Thus, the glass configuration, additional Heat Soak testing, the Faraone Italia profile, with specific approvals for crowded areas, and the chosen type of handrail, all converge in the same direction: optimal safety for those coming to the stands.

The entire quantity, 1400 sqm, was produced by Glas Expert according to the schedule imposed by the Beneficiary, with the efficient and optimized mobilization of all departments within Glas Expert.
