Precise Glass cutting is achieved on a CNC machine, using ‘computer numerical control’ which is the automation of machine tools by means of a computer executing pre-programmed sequences of machine control commands. The actual cutting is done using a diamond tipped steel disc, which has a V-shaped end and is carried by a head that moves around three axes X, Y and Z. By interpolating the x and y axes we can cut any shape, such as ellipses, circles, trapezoids or parallelograms, the deviation being only +/- 0.5 mm.
The ability of the machine to change its cutting head makes it suitable for cutting glass with thicknesses from 2mm to 25mm.

The CNC machines that Glas Expert has at their disposal are glass processing centers based on 3D autoCAD files. The processing heads can follow a 3D trajectory, resulting from the interpolation of the 5 axes X, Y, Z, A and C.
The performance software that works with the DXF files, as well as the mechanical elements that make up the machining center’s assembly, allow us to execute glass pieces with dimensional deviations in the order of tens of millimeters.

After cutting the glass to the required size, edge finishing can be done mechanically or manually. Safety and security is the primary goal where edge finishing is concerned, then to improve functionality and appearance.
There are a huge variety of edge finishing options:
– bevel – the edges are wholly or partially bevelled;
– satin finished edge – the edge has been processed with specific tools. The edge finish is matte (satin) and traces left by the diamond disc cannot be seen with the naked eye.

After cutting and finishing glass, drilling is done where necessary. Glas Expert uses CNC machines for drilling glass, in order to diminish the possiblitiy of deviations. All drilling machines use Head-To-Head technology (drilling is done with 2 drills, head-to-head – one that runs under the glass and the other over the glass).
All the holes are embossed, eliminating all the tensions around the hole. The risks of glass breakage over time are considerably reduced by this procedure.

Ceramic Glass Printing

Ceramic Printing on Glass requires cutting-edge technology. In 2014 Glas Expert was the first Romanian company to acquire this technology, placing us among the top 30 glass processing companies in Europe. Ceramic ink printing is done in a ‘temperature and humidity’ controlled environment. After printing, the glass is heated to a temperature of 650 – 700 degrees (depending on the thickness of the glass). As the glass is tempering, the ceramic ink practically fuses with the glass and the printed image remains at the same high quality for at least 15 years, unaffected by external factors. The colours are UV resistant and the printed ceramic surface is highly resistant to abrasion.
