CHARACTERISTICS
EVODUR ESG is a tempered safety glass produced by heating the glass to a temperature of about 650 degrees Celsius, at which point it begins to soften. The external surfaces are then cooled, rapidly, causing compression. The heating/rapid cooling process is electronically controlled and the individual parameters used during the process influences the final quality of the safety glass.
Its resistance to mechanical warping is usually four to five times higher than that of normal glass and is appropriately used in cases where it is necessary to mechanically grip the various metal parts attached to the glass. If broken, EVODUR ESG fractures into very small, harmless fragments, ensuring the safety and security of people who may come into contact with the broken pieces.

Heat Soak Test – a destructive test used to minimise the risk of spontaneous tempered glass breakage
In order to reduce the risk of spontaneous breakage due to the presence of Nickel Sulphide (NiS) inclusions in the tempered safety glass, the glass is subjected to an additional thermal treatment called a “Heat-Soak Test”. This test is regulated by the EN 14179 European standard and consists of heating and then cooling the glass according to certain temperature curves. Being destructive, this treatment eliminates most of the glass that is at risk but cannot, under the current technical conditions, eliminate 100% of the effected material. The risk of spontaneous breakage is, however, considerably reduced. This treatment is advised in all cases in which stability of work, maintaining closure or coverage volume and/or the safety of users may be endangered by a tempered glass breakage.

EVODUR ESG can be made of various types of glass (tinted, clear, ultra-low or low-iron, ornament, lowE), with thickness from 4 mm to 19 mm.

USES
EVODUR’s exceptional shock resistance enables an 8mm glass panel to withstand the impact of a 500g steel ball falling from a height of 2m. By comparison, the same ball falling from a height of 0.3 m, breaks regular glass of the same thickness. In addition, its characteristic ‘flexural breaking strength’ of at least 129 MPa is far superior to that of ordinary glass.These remarkable ‘Safety and Security’ related mechanical qualities make EVODUR ESG tempered safety glass the recommended first choice for glass doors, partitions, rails, shower enclosures, lift shutters, furniture, floor coverings, glass covers and glass stairs. Tempered glass is used in the manufacture of various types of indoor and outdoor glass doors, shop windows, entrances to buildings, and to prevent potential household accidents in the case of glass furniture, countertops, shelves and/or cupboard doors. Other areas where security is emphasised and tempered safety glass is used would be urban furniture, cabinets, bus stops, signboards, facades, ventilated facades, roofs, safety guards and banisters.

Protection against injury – Should it break, EVODUR ESG fractures into very small, harmless shards, ensuring the safety and security of those who may come into contact with the glass.

Break-in protection – EVODUR ESG glass mounted into a suitable frame can provide essential protection against burglary.

VARIATIONS OF EVODUR ESG TEMPERED GLASS
The various procedures and temperatures used during the tempering process dictate whether the final product is:
EVODUR HS – semi-tempered glass – which secures after another temperature curve and breaks in a different way from the secure glass.
or
EVODUR HST – tempered glass that has been subjected to the Heat Soak Test process.

EVODUR ESG
Maximum tempered glass size: 2480 mm x 4400 mm
Thicknesses between 4 mm and 19 mm.
Any type of tempered safety glass, clear float, ultra clear, coloured/ tinted, ornamental, reflexive, Low-E Hard and SOFT with emissivity up to 0.02.
Minimum size: 250 mm x 200 mm.
