Structural Glass Balustrades

Structural Glass Balustrades

Balustrades play a crucial role in protecting against falls and can also function as columns or supports for other structures. The balustrade panels, extended down to the floor level, take on the distributed weight of the steps and solidify them to ensure stability.

The profiles used in structural balustrade panels are robust and secure, designed to handle the weight of the steps and reduce vibrations generated by their use. Precision cutouts made with CNC machinery frame the steps, and their fixation is done either mechanically or by bonding. CNC processing ensures precise execution across multiple glass sheets in the same area, resulting in perfectly aligned panels for the insertion of the steps.

Structural balustrade variants also include those fixed to the ceiling, with rigid structures calculated specifically for these cases. In these situations, the glass descends below the free end of the steps to enclose and stiffen them. Since the space beneath stairs is typically unused for circulation, it can be repurposed for other purposes.

In other cases, the balustrade supports the free end of the steps, and the step length requires several panels to be mechanically joined together to ensure the necessary safety and support. The first balustrade bears the weight on the floor, and the following panels interconnect, solidifying the balustrade with the steps and ensuring stability at each level.
