Outdoor Glass Balustrades

Outdoor Glass Balustrades

New constructions with large glazed surfaces are those that capture the attention of those looking for a modern home. Glass balustrades complete the innovative design of the most sought-after buildings, enhancing the appearance of the building with the special touch of glass.

Compliance with Safety and Security Standards in Construction is imperative in the construction field, from the initial stages to finishes and decorations. In projects involving balustrades, the protective role against falling is ensured by installing a system that involves tempered and laminated glass. The configuration of the glass considers the height (floor level) where the balustrade is installed, the maximum size of a panel, the traffic in the area, wind load, and the type of fixation—profile or point fixings.

Glas Expert manufactures and installs internationally approved balustrade systems and specifically ensures on-site testing of the technical solutions for which the client requests this type of protocol. According to TRAV standards, on-site testing is conducted by monitoring the resistance of the entire system: glass, profile, and fixing method.

We follow the principle that SAFETY IS NOT A MATTER OF CHANCE. Thus, all solutions installed by Glas Expert primarily meet the requirements of Safety and Security Standards through the correct installation of tempered and laminated glass in suitable profiles, as well as adapting the project requirements to existing solutions on construction sites.

Through the tempering process, glass becomes five times more resistant than ordinary glass. Laminating two tempered glass panels with EVA film results in increased impact resistance due to the added elasticity of the glazed assembly and enhanced UV resistance.

The lamination film used by Glas Expert is EVA, the only variant with hydrophobic properties, which qualifies the balustrades we produce for installation on the exterior of buildings. The benefits of using EVA film, due to its water-repellent characteristics (rain, snow, etc.), ensure that the balustrades do not delaminate and remain intact, providing protection against falling. Other laminating films are hydrophilic—they attract water and, over time, delaminate.

Glas Expert manufactures a wide range of balustrades from extra-clear, ultra-clear, or chemically satin-finished glass, with clear, frosted, or colored film, ceramic enamel in RAL colors, and ceramic prints in various colors. The increasingly requested glass balustrade variants with ceramic prints provide a unique touch to each building, with high-resolution prints that can be applied in multiple colors using ceramic ink.

The type and variant of fixation can be discussed and adapted depending on the site conditions. Glass balustrades are mounted in profiles both on the floor and on the side of the concrete slab. For stairs, we have different types of point fixings, mounted on the stringer or on the steps. These lateral point fixings in stainless steel have adjustable spacers to accommodate potential flatness differences in the stair stringer, ensuring that the glass balustrades are perfectly aligned and vertical.

The major advantage of point fixings is that they preserve the entire width of the step as a usable traffic surface, while maintaining safety during use.

Glas Expert has developed solutions for the punctual waterproofing of areas where glass balustrades are installed on the exterior, even after finishing work has been completed. Glas Expert's continuous search for solutions for our clients has led us to find solutions for installing glass balustrades on terraces whose floors did not have the correct slope or lacked water collection systems.

The most modern and innovative solution developed by Glas Expert is the bonding of the balustrades onto stainless steel and aluminum profiles. The ceramic-enamelled area conceals the bonding surface, resulting in a glass balustrade mounted in alignment with the facade, without visible point fixings, holes in the glass, or exposed profiles.

For areas with small glazed openings but no actual balcony, we also install French balustrades or Juliet balconies with point fixings or profiles.

Glas Expert provides the full range of glass balustrades, from variants with stainless steel posts to full glass balustrades, with or without an applied handrail, and ensures the complete solution: measurements, specific design, production, installation, warranty, service, and maintenance.
